Dr. Roberto Lenton, Water for Food Institute

The 5th Annual Global Water for Food Conference here in Lincoln, Nebraska, hosted by the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute, is bringing together a broad range of national and international experts to focus on sustainable solutions as we rise to the challenge of growing enough food to feed a hungry world.

I’m amazed at the richness of content and experience and the diversity of participants. From ranchers in Brazil, to aquaculture specialists working in the Mekong Delta of Cambodia, to the University of Nebraska experts in research and extension and soil and water management, we are all learning together about new challenges and new solutions. Today Dr. Heidi Cullen, chief climatologist, Climate Central, gave an especially sobering yet stimulating lunchtime keynote. Her overview of climate change energized the audience to continue working on adaptation and mitigation strategies and policies to deal with this new reality.

I commend Dr. Roberto Lenton, executive director of the Water for Food Institute, and his entire team for organizing such a stimulating conference. We are pleased that the Water for Food Institute has recently joined GHI as one of our consultative partner organizations, and we look forward to future collaboration on food, nutrition, and water security.
