A career in agriculture advocacy draws on your passion for the industry, interest in educating and desire to influence and create change.
Just ask Erica Seitzer, a senior policy associate for Global Harvest Initiative. Seitzer, employed by DuPont Pioneer, on-loan to GHI, couples her passions for agriculture, policy and international issues through her advocacy work at GHI.
GHI is a private-sector coalition with six member organizations – Accenture, DuPont, Elanco, IBM, John Deere and Monsanto. GHI’s work focuses on helping farmers grow more food in the easiest and most efficient way possible while conserving natural resources. In addition to promoting farming technologies and practices, GHI also educates policy makers in the United States and overseas about the necessary economic environment for a healthy agriculture and food industry.
“GHI believes the right policies can improve global food and nutrition security. For example, we advocate for policies that call for increased funding of public agricultural research and development,” Seitzer says.
Both at home and internationally, Seitzer targets her messages toward policy influencers. She develops policy products and papers, supports communication efforts, engages with GHI member organizations and works closely with allied partners to advance the mission of GHI.
