Global Agricultural Productivity Index™
The Global Agricultural Productivity Index™, or GAP Index™, is a benchmark developed by the Global Harvest Initiative to measure the difference between the current annual rate of global agricultural productivity growth and the productivity growth rate necessary to meet the demand of the anticipated nine billion people that will inhabit the Earth by 2050.
Part of the Global Harvest Initiative’s Global Agricultural Productivity Report™, or GAP Report™, the GAP Index™ will be updated and released on an annual basis, integrating new agricultural challenges and advancements worldwide. Measuring progress each year is critical to obtain the right measures to boost agricultural output through timely increases in productivity in order to sustainably meet the growing needs.
The inaugural GAP Index™ and GAP Report™ were released by the Global Harvest Initiative at the 2010 World Food Prize Symposium in Des Moines, Iowa.
